Patty Flowerday School of Dance (PFS) was founded in 2011. Miss Patty has been teaching in the Rochester area for the past 45 years in a positive, fun way while focusing on technique, discipline, strength and flexibility that dance requires. Classes are offered for ages 3 to Adult in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyric, Modern, Contemporary, and Stretch & Strength as well as fitness classes and personal training.

Patty Flowerday has studied dance since the age of six and has taught all forms of dance. Miss Patty studied dance, modeling and drama at Joyce Winters School and SUNY Brockport. She has also studied under many well known teachers such as: Tom Ralabate, Luigi, Frank Hatchett and Cayla Allen to name a few. She has been a Master Jazz teacher for Dance Masters of America and the British Dance Teacher's Association. Parents and students can tell you that Miss Patty gets results from students in a positive, encouraging way. Miss Patty co-owned and operated Dance 22 in Webster NY for 22 years and in 2011, she branched off on her own. Miss Patty is an adjudicator for many competitions throughout the USA and Canada. She has published a book through Rhee Gold Standard Press for dance teachers, "Dance Teacher's Helper". Miss Patty is a member of Dance Masters of America Chapter #8, and has been for the past 35 years and serves on the Board of Directors. Miss Patty is certified by test to teach through Dance Masters of America and has completed 6 years of Teacher's Training School at the University of Buffalo. Miss Patty also loves to choreograph musicals and you can usually find her doing that in her spare time. In October 2009 she attended the International Association of Dance and Medical Science (IADAMS) in Cleveland and took multiple classes on how to improve her dancers’ technique, flexibility and strength in a safe way. The summer of 2012 Miss Patty attended the World Jazz Congress, taking classes from some of the best "Master Jazz" teachers in the world. Miss Patty is always looking for ways to improve her teaching abilities and loves working with her students. She was certified in UPBEAT Barre in June and is planning on getting certified in Zena Rommett Floor Barre in NYC this coming summer. Many of her students have gone on to professional dance careers performing in shows in Branson, Radio City Rockettes, Broadway Shows, Television, Music Videos, Cruise Lines, Disney, and more recently 3rd place on SYTYCD! Miss Patty is certified in CPR through the Red Cross and also is a certified WaterArt instructor at the YMCA in Canandaigua NY. She is an adjudicator for Dance Masters of America, Luv2Dance and Glow Dance Competition.

Michelle has been studying dance under Patty Flowerday for the past 20+ years and teaching for 14 years.  Michelle performed with Leap of Faith Dance Ministry with Miss Patty dancing jazz, lyrical, hip hop and flags. She is excited to be teaching our 3&4, 5&6, 7&8, 9-12 year old classes on Saturday mornings.  Michelle has studied tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, pointe and hip hop and is excited to share her passion and knowledge with some of our littlest dancers!


Sharon Casper-Detweiler (Guest Teacher)

Sharon Detweiler recently relocated to San Antonio after living in the Midwest, New York, and overseas. She spent a year in England taking a teacher training course at the Royal Academy of Dance and dancing at Danceworks of London as well as two years in South Bend, Indiana, teaching for some of the best schools in the nation. Sharon is a Dance Masters of America certified teacher and a post-graduate of their Teacher Training School at the University at Buffalo. She is a member of The Cecchetti Council of America, American Fitness Professionals and Associates, and Dance Masters of America. Sharon has extensive training in both the Body Control and classical methods of Pilates and is a certified mat work instructor. She has taken teacher training courses with David Howard at Steps on Broadway, Judy Rice at the University at Buffalo, Finis Jhung at the Alvin Ailey School, and spent the past year in an intensive 200 hour Cecchetti training program with master educator Lisa Taylor. 
Sharon has been teaching for the past 18 years and during this time has had the opportunity to lecture and instruct at numerous colleges, high schools, conservatories, companies and studios throughout New York, Indiana, Michigan, Massachusetts and Texas. Some of the schools she has taught for include the Conservatory of Dance, under the direction of Ballet Chicago alumnus Lydia Aurinko-Mostow, Southold Dance Theatre under the direction of American Ballet Theatre alumnus Erika Fischbach, Citadel Dance Center under the direction of Paul Taylor alumnus Eileen Cropley as well as The University of Notre Dame. She is a master teacher for the National Association of Dance and Affiliated Arts and a judge for dance competitions. Sharon served as the Director of Ballet at Dance 22 for eight years, training all levels of dancers, several who are now dancing professionally in companies and on television. She currently teaches throughout San Antonio.  Miss Sharon will be joining whenever she is in town.


Marcia Vanderlee

Miss Marcia Vanderlee is a graduate from the College at Brockport, Miss Marcia has presented her work nationally at Cornell University and Salisbury University and has studied with many professionals in the dance and music field. She is a member of Khalid Saleem’s personal group, Percussion ah Saleem, as well as an active member of Sankofa African Drum and Dance Ensemble and Mounafanyi Percussion and Dance Ensemble. In addition to studying with nationally and internationally renowned artists at the College at Brockport, Miss Marcia has also participated in the American Dance Festival (ADF). Miss Marcia teaches dance to children with developmental disabilities with Together Including Every Student (TIES). She is committed and passionate about the arts and is thrilled to be sharing her love of dance and drumming with the community. Miss Marcia has a Master of Science in Recreation and Leisure with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation and also holds a Bachelors of Science in Dance and Physical Education.  We are thrilled to have Miss Marcia on our staff at PFS. Miss Marcia is also a former student of Miss Patty's!


Tanessa Martin

“I believe in setting goals and progression. I love the camaraderie that comes along with dancing as part of a group; showing support and encouraging one another; lifting each other up instead of tearing each other down. I believe in having fun, games, and the magic that happens to dancers when they get on stage. It’s a beautiful thing to see my classes grow and progress together,” (Miss Tanessa). Miss Tanessa was three years old when she began dancing at Brenda Berlow School of Dance. At the age of nine, she started dancing on competitive and non-competitive teams at Dance 22 under the instruction of Miss Patty and many other amazing mentors. Following High School, Miss Tanessa toured and performed with the world-renowned Young Americans based out of Corona, California. There, she studied music, dance, vocal performance, and acting with the direction of Milton Anderson, Robin Brawley and Bill Brawley. Miss Tanessa has been teaching dance and choreographing for the better part of 20 years now specializing in ages seven and older. She is well rounded in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern/Contemporary, and Hip Hop. The last 13 years, Miss Tanessa has taught with Patty Flowerday School of Dance, and she feels honored to be part of such an amazing dance family!

Rachel Hirsch

Rachel began dancing at the age of 12 at Dance Theater Workshop in West Virginia, directed by Dawn Loreman, and soon joined Beckley Dance Theatre School, directed by Jerry Rose. Rachel quickly developed a passion for ballet, dancing many times a week, and attending several statewide dance festivals. At the age of 16 she received a summer scholarship to the dance intensive program at Point Park University in Pittsburgh. Throughout high school she performed in the local production of The Nutcracker dancing roles including: Russian Candy Canes, Waltz of the Flowers, and Waltz of the Snowflakes. Rachel went to college at the University of Akron in Ohio, and taught children’s dance classes at Beckley Dance Theatre School in the summer. She initially majored in Dance Performance, but after 1 year, changed career paths, pursuing a Bachelors degree in Family & Child Development, and a minor in Dance. She then went on to receive a Master’s degree in Counseling. After college, Rachel got married and moved to New York City where she worked as a Behavior Intervention Specialist, and only took occasional drop in dance classes. Many years later after moving to Rochester and having 3 children, her daughters began attending Patty Flowerday’s and Rachel realized she also missed dancing! She began taking adult ballet with Ms. Patty in September of 2022 and joined the teaching staff in September of 2023. She is so excited to be sharing her love of dance with little ones! Welcome Miss Rachel we are excited to have you join our dance family!


Marah Reuter

Miss Marah has completed year one of Dance Masters teacher Training School. She is a very talented teacher and choreographer.

Coach Sarah Hughes

Coach Sarah teaches conditioning class on Monday nights for dancers and Thursday nights for adults.. Her classes are designed to navigate the needs of a dancer’s body utilizing current and updated information from dance and sport medecine. She has a coaching license from NFHS (National Federation of High School Sports) Coach Sarah will be recommending proper nutrition and hydration as well as any issues or injuries dancers are concerned with. Coach Sarah danced for 13 years in a studio setting. She met Mr Kenney and fell in love with break dancing. During her college years she expanded her horizons to CrossFit. She graduated from the University of Cincinatti earning her Bachelor degree is Sports Administration and a Certificate in Sport Coaching from the University. Sarah is living in the City of Rochester and has decided to Coach and continue training under Mr Kenney. A highlight of Coach Sarah’s college experience was her internship for the World DanceSport Federation (2022) which brought breakdancing to the Paris Olympics. Coach Sarah helped the Federation organize and plan the World Games 2022 in Birmingham Alabama. She gained a lot of experience and knowledge during this time along with new relationships. Coach Sarah was fortunate enough to see the final project at the 2024 Paris Olympics. and reconnect with some people she met along the way. We welcome Coach Sarah and the knowledge she brings to our dancers and their families.


Elisha Reuter

Elisha has won many awards for her dancing and trains 3 days a week. This is her 1st year teaching at Patty Flowerday School of Dance and she loves working with ages 3-8. We welcome Miss Elisha to our faculty.
